What God has been teaching me from 1 Peter 3

I’ve been reading through the book of I Peter lately. In chapter 3, verses 8-9 it states:

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

These few verses have really had an impact on me. God has been teaching me lately to be more compassionate, especially to those that are less fortunate than me. This verse was yet another reminder.  I don’t know what this looks like yet, but I do know that God is calling me to do something.

The next part of the passage talks about not repaying evil with evil or insult with insult. This is another challenge for me. I have no problem being nice to people who are nice to me. But it’s real hard to be nice to people that I feel are harming me. God is telling me, not only should I not be acting like them, but instead find a way to bless them. So when someone cuts me off on the road, I need to find a way to make that person’s day a little better. Lately, I’ve been tempted to repay evil with evil. I’m glad I haven’t acted on those feelings. That’s a good start, but I know God is calling me to so much more. He is not calling me to just be neutral. I need to find ways to be a positive influence and a blessing to those who have opposed me.

How have you done in this area? If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
